The Kalix Bridge is classified as a national interest and serves as an essential part of the E4, linking the route across the Kalix River. When the bridge was to be illuminated, the goal was to create an inviting gateway to the town. The overall lighting concept was developed early in the process through close collaboration between lighting designers, bridge engineers, and landscape architects.
To meet the high aesthetic and technical standards, several engineering disciplines within Sweco worked closely together throughout the project. The bridge has since become a landmark on both the large and small scale, with structural details—such as its graceful arches—carefully accentuated.
Control Dept. served as the control-system specialist throughout the entire project and programmed the full system in close collaboration with the lighting designer from Sweco Architects.
In 2024, the bridge was awarded the Swedish Lighting Prize for best exterior lighting.
